![]() ![]() ![]() Professor Ó Conchubhair’s writings include an award-winning monograph on the intellectual history of the Irish Revival entitled Fin de Siècle na Gaeilge: Darwin, An Athbheochan agus Smaointeoireacht na hEorpa (The Irish Fin de Siècle: Darwin, the Revival and European Thought). He has been a Visiting Professor at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, the University of Notre Dame, Dhaka, (Bangladesh), and Charles University (Prague.) He has served as Director of the Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures (2013-2020) Executive Director of the IRISH Seminar (2011-2013), and President of the American Conference for Irish Studies (2015-2017). Making Sense of a United Ireland is Professor O’Leary’s thirtieth book.īrian Ó Conchubhair is an Associate Professor of Irish Language and Literature at the University of Notre Dame and a fellow of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. He was the second Senior Advisor on Power-Sharing in the Mediation Unit of the United Nations. He has advised on national and ethnic conflicts in a number of African and Asian countries and has worked for the UK’s International Department of Development and for the European Union. Professor O’Leary has been deeply engaged in conflict resolution in Ireland for nearly four decades, including over a decade advising the British Labour Party in the run-up to the Good Friday Agreement advising an influential group of Irish-Americans led by Congressman Bruce Morrison through the 1990s and writing advisory memoranda for the Irish government. He is a graduate of Oxford University and the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is both a Southerner (born in Cork) and a Northerner (schooled in counties Antrim and Down).
